Layout is the most crucial aspect of web designing. The basics of web are frequently over looked; instead people start calculating on tangent of (CSS, tables, frames, etc.)
Color and White Space
Make sure the entire white space is being used without creating a clutter. Use layout sections, which can comfortably fit, in the browser window. Importantly, the screen resolution should be kept it mind. Initially, 640 X 480 resolution was used, but that no longer is the trend.
White spaces help break monotony and loosen up the eye of the reader.
It is often called the “breathing space” for the eyes.
Colors add zinc to an article. Colors should be used to define territory and offer segregation. If you require a page of a precise size, you should ideally mid align it on the main screen and keep an attractive background colour. By this the page will stand out, larger browsers should have more background so that they are prominent, smaller browsers should have less background or none. By doing this there would be adequate differentiation in both kinds of browsers.
Graphics, Images and Animations.
The website designers, goof up as they to create clutter with images. Usually web sites add an image and then follow it with a text. Then this will be followed with another image, which will have some text, besides it- explaining the image.
This gives a shabby look. Rather you should align the images, which will help the images blend with the layout. The text and graphics should be balanced on a page.
Agreed, that graphics, animations, pictures or any visual medium speak volumes, but they disrupt the layout and make it difficult for the user to read. Thus, the images need to reflect the words. The images and text together make an impact in the article/story.
Text width
The text width is important. It’s known as the “scan length” and just projects the number of words that can appear on a single line. On a general note a minimum of 7 words looks decent. The maximum should not exceed 11. This is comfortable for a reader.
If it gets elongated than that, the text gets difficult to read. If it’s shorter to that it seems distracting and abrupt. While you are working on the layouts, see to that, the text displayed is in the appropriate width, and can be read without hassles. One should avoid center alignment to the text. Simply because, centering makes it difficult to read
The White space, the coloured browsers, the width, the number of words, the font size, the images or animations, the alignment, the resolution, all of these should be treated as parameters which one should meet while designing a web site. These are small details, which make a huge difference in the overall outlook of the site.
These easy tips, once kept in mind make the web layout easier and give a polished finishing to the web site.
