Fast loading: The foremost point to remember for every web designer. A great and good looking web site design by you will not be acceptable by all if it takes longer time to load. Always try to make it a point that the site you have design should not take more than 15 seconds to load.
Remember you have a great design on your site but few people will view it if takes longer time to load.
Clear Navigation: Every visitor on your site should be able to go through your site as per their wish. For this you need to have a clear navigation with all important links at the prominent places. It should be right on top which most visitors like or use menus on the right or left.
Link as many pages of your site to one another so that it is accessible from any page. You can also use your footer for important link as you never know what a visitor likes in your site.
All Resolutions: Now a day resolution range from 640x480 1024x768 and it goes on. You main aim should be to design your site for all these resolutions. For this you should always try to design your site on terms of percentage and not on pixels.
Browser Compatibility: One more point to note is that your site is browser compatible. The site you design should look good on Internet explorer 5+, Netscape navigator 6+, Opera 7.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0 as this are the most used browser all around the world.
Professional and Readable fonts: Make sure that the font and background color is appealing to the visitors. If the font and color combination is not good then the visitor will not like to visit your site.
If the font used by you in your site is not available on the computer of your visitor then the default font will make the site appear absurd. So always try to use the professional and common web fonts. I always like to use Arial and veranda.
Minimize the use of Images: Always keep your site clean and simple. Don’t make your site look like collection of pictures by using big and bulky images. Instead you table creatively with eye catching icons design that will attract the visitors to your site. Visitors are more interested in content of the site rather than a design in a site.
Use of white space: Don’t use too many images in your site, and also colorful backgrounds and fonts. Minimize the use of graphics and keep more white space, as it gives sense of freeness and togetherness.
Check got Broken link: Always check for broken links in Dreamweaver before uploading the file on your web server. You can check the broken link in Dreamwewaver by right clicking on any file and then clicking on Check links – Entire site from the Site files window. If these features are not available then you can upload the files and then check it forms the online tools available like Net Mechanic.
