Beautiful Broadbeach: Life's a Beach

by Richard Greaves

If you subscribe to the idea that life's a beach, then Broadbeach just south of Surfers
Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast is just the place for you. The place has a sublime climate and some of the best beaches in the area. What's more, Broadbeach lacks the hype and jangle of Surfers Paradise so you get a much mellower experience. Here's the low-down on Broadbeach.

With its location at the heart of the Gold Coast, Broadbeach is a compact town with everything you need for your holiday within walking distance. And with its beaches rated amongst the best on the Gold Coast, which means you can enjoy your sandy haven with the minimum of time and fuss.

And what beaches they are. Wide and stretching for over a mile of clean, golden sands, the Broadbeach beaches are you personal stretch of paradise. One great thing about the Broadbeach beaches is that they're safe. You can choose from two patrolled areas. Kurrawa Beach is well-known as a safe bathing spot is a popular beach to host Australia's major surf life saving competitions.

During the busy summer months, from October to May, the dedicated volunteer lifesavers from Kurrawa and Broadbeach Surf Clubs are on duty every weekend. And every other day of the year, professional lifeguards from the local council patrol a network of beach towers to ensure safety for all swimmers and surfers.

If you get tired of just lying around getting a tan, you'll find a host of activities to try including kite surfing, volleyball, and sand sculpturing, as well as swimming and surfing.

Another great thing about the Broadbeach beaches is that they're blessed with the kind of waves that bring out the surfers in droves. This makes Broadbeach a great place to learn surfing with its regular surfing schools.

Broadbeach's surfing school are known for their friendliness and pleasant learning environments. You'll get to know all about paddling, wave catching, assorted prone to feet methods and of course the important issue of safety while surfing.

Along the foreshore is a boardwalk, an undercover picnic area and gas barbeque facilities, children's playgrounds and a duck pond. And if ever you should tire of the sands, you can hit the extensive pedestrianised shopping and cafe zone just nearby. There's also a play area for the kids with fairground rides that operate all year round.

Broadbeach is a great place to walk in the early morning when the town in waking and early birds are hitting the beach for fresh air and exercise.

When you're done with the beach for another day, you can head back to your hotel of choice to unwind and refresh. One of the pleasures of a holiday on the Gold Coast is the fine range of Broadbeach hotels. Among the best are the BreakFree Diamond Beach Resort Gold Coast and the Mantra Phoenician Broadbeach.
