Intriguing Museums in Indianapolis

by Victoria Cochrane

When it comes to booking your holiday each year it’s easy to keep going back to the same old places. But if you’re a city lover, why not give Indianapolis a try?

It’s not the first American city you would think of, which is precisely why you should try it! It is home to a lot more than just speedway, and you’ll be hard pushed to get bored during a stay in this city, since there is so much for both adults and kids to get up to.

Museums always provide a great value and fascinating day out, and Indianapolis certainly has its fair share of them. If you are planning to catch some speedway action while you’re in town you won’t want to miss the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. It offers a spellbinding insight into motor racing and gives you the chance to go on a tour of the grounds and explore the Hall of Fame Museum itself.

If you’d like to keep the kids happy during your stay then a trip to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis should do the job. This has been designed to appeal to the child in all of us, with interactive exhibits and plenty to see and do. Many of the exhibits have also been created with the input of local children, so all those things that kids always find fascinating are included in great detail. It certainly provides a stimulating day out.

The Indiana State Museum gives you the opportunity to see an outstanding selection of cultural and historical displays from the surrounding area; it also provides a showcase for other exhibits from many countries across the world. If you’ve been before you’ll be assured of a new experience this time around too, since they are constantly displaying new works of interest for the public to view.

One of the most fascinating museums to see – if you have the stomach for it that is – is the Indiana Medical History Museum. This is housed in a building that was used for pathology in previous years, so it is certainly in the right location!

The teaching amphitheatre is particularly intriguing and was probably regarded as the height of medicine when it was opened more than a century ago. Nowadays it can still teach us a lot, but you’ll be learning about how the world of medicine was back then, compared to the leaps and bounds it has made into the present day.

When you are planning your holiday, make sure you work out which hotels in Indianapolis are close by to the museums you want to visit. This will cut down on your journey time and leave more time to see the sights.

Wherever you decide to go, you will be treated to a side of Indianapolis that not everyone sees – and it’s one that will stay with you long after your holiday is over.
