Luxury Holidays: The Tropical Trinity

by Andrew Regan

Few could deny that when it comes to holidaying in the most luxurious of surroundings, the island nations of the Seychelles, Mauritius and the Maldives are perhaps the pinnacle of decadent destinations. This trinity of topical islands offers some of the most beautiful silky white sands, swaying palms and azure seas in the world.

The Seychelles are made up of over one hundred lush green islands spattered across the Indian Ocean. These unspoilt flecks of land are generously inhabited with tropical life, including coconut trees, mangoes, banana, breadfruit and pineapples, and the warm seas that surround them are equally rich in life, yielding tuna, snapper, barracuda and kingfish.

As if the natural beauty of these islands wasn't enough, they also offer the possibility of staying in luxurious accommodation that has been well blended with the natural landscape. For example, the Banyan Tree Resort and Spa offers sea, sand and solitude to allow total tranquillity for visitors. Located on an unspoilt beach in Mahe's Intendance Bay, the resort is set away from the busier parts of the island, allowing total seclusion for the traveller who wants to enjoy the natural peace of the area.

The Maldives are another world class island destination that offer some of the finest luxury beach holidays. Each resort is home to picture perfect scenes of talcum soft, white sand with a backdrop of palm groves and a coral lagoon. Guests can enjoy spa treatments in sumptuous private villas with direct lagoon access, discover local Maldivian culture by visiting the fishing communities, and also have the option of going on various excursions including island hopping, deep sea fishing, dolphin watching and seaplane sight-seeing, in order to get the very best view of these incredibly picturesque islands.

Whist some might envisage the highest levels of comfort are confined to city civilisation, a luxury holiday doesn't have to mean high rise hotels; take the Bedouin tents of the Banyan Tree Madivaru in the Maldives, for example. These private, secluded shelters, surrounded by crystal white sands and the sounds of whispering palms offers luxury accommodation with six private swimming pools, and are located directly on the beach and also offer an exclusive spa for the ultimate island indulgence. There is also an all-day dining restaurant and a bar lounge as well as in-villa dining option that allow guests to enjoy the Maldives' epicurean delights and seafood delicacies in the privacy of their own tented accommodation.

Mauritius too is an idyll of white sand beaches, shallow lagoons, coral reefs and forested mountains, and a land so beautiful, it was deemed a model for paradise. So if you're looking for the most picturesque natural surrounds, the tropical trinity of the Seychelles, the Maldives and Mauritius are the islands to explore, and if you truly want to top off your holiday, why not upgrade your flight to first class and enjoy a truly luxurious trip from start to finish!
