AC motor is an electric motor that is driven by an alternating current. It consists of two basic parts, an outside stationary stator having coils supplied with AC current to produce a rotating magnetic field, and an inside rotor attached to the output shaft that is given a torque by the rotating field. AC motors require only three power conductors; DC motors require four.
However, most AC drive suppliers recommend special shielded power cables to minimize electrical interference from the AC drive. AC motors are also fairly simple to understand. They are a little trickier to make but will need single-phase or three-phase AC power to make them work.

Inductors, like the coils in a motor, dislike having the current through them changed abruptly, and produce large voltage spikes. These can fry the triac in the dimmer. Inductive motors require a variable frequency control.
Induction machines develop starting torque at zero speed and can operate as standalone machines. Synchronous machines must have auxiliary means for startup, such as a starting induction squirrel-cage winding or an electronic controller.
