What's wrong with your dog's food?

by Jonathan Heath

Have you ever looked at the list of ingredients on the back of your dog's food? Notice anything peculiar? In most cases you probably won't even know what most of the ingredients really are, let alone what problems may arise in producing them.

Dogs are carnivores. They need to eat meat, and in particular they need to take in protein on a regular basis in order to stay healthy and happy. Most dog food manufacturers use filler products which are poor replacements for the protein content that your dog needs.

The filler products that most dog manufacturers use are also not regulated particularly well. Some manufacturers use animal byproducts, which are no more than slaughterhouse refuse and waste.

Other manufactures use some sort of grain pellets, many of which don't actually contain the protein content that your dog needs to stay healthy. Also, some of the processes which are used to create these filler products expose the food to unnecessary health risks, such as parasites.

There are many methods that you can use to make sure that your dog remains healthy and lives a long and happy life. Some of these include making sure that you research the food that your dog is eating, and how that food is being made. Another alternative that is gaining popularity is to make your own homemade dog food.

Whichever method you use, make sure to know the risks and the benefits and know that I wish you and your dog a long, healthy and happy life.
