Pick The Right DJ Equipment And Become A Superstar DJ

by Shaun Parker

The first steps along the road to becoming a superstar DJ are often the most exciting. Finding the right DJ equipment and getting the most of the budget that you have can strangely enough be exciting in itself. For people that are new to DJing finding the right equipment can be quite difficult. This is because there is such an enormous wealth of options available that can suit all types of budgets there are plenty of decisions to be made.

The level of quality of equipment that you choose to invest in is often relative to your skill levels. So for people that are starting out finding equipment that matches your skill levels and your budget is a challenge. Not least because they are new to the DJ world and by definition do not have much previous experience. I would strongly recommend that people that want to take up DJing save up a considerable budget and then read as much as they possibly can to inform their decisions. So whether you have wanted to be the next Tiesto and play to thousands of clubbers, get funky Morillo style with your mates or get on with some old school cheese then get yourself the best equipment and get cracking.

Music

Picking the right music is by far the most crucial aspect of being a DJ. Long before you need to invest in expensive equipment you need to look into finding music that you like. You should also pick the format in which you want your music carefully. You may opt to use CDs, Vinyl records or computer media files. CDs and computer media files can be mixed in the same way that traditional vinyl records can be if you get the right equipment. This means that these are real viable options for aspiring DJs.

Playing Devices

It goes without saying that you are going to need a piece of equipment to play your music. In most cases a DJ will have a couple of devices that they use together to enable them to change tracks seamlessly. Typically you are likely to be familiar with DJs that use two turntables. One of the turntables plays the music live whilst the other is used to cue up music in preparation for the other tracks to be played. The DJ will usually listen to the second track through headphones and try and match the beats so that they can produce seamless links between tracks. There are devices that can do this between CDs and also between computer media tracks. These devices often have an external hardware that replicates a vinyl turntable and can be manipulated in a similar way.

Headphones

Headphones are one of the most important pieces of kit for a DJ. A good set of headphones can make mixing tracks much easier. The best types of headphones are those that do not let in outside sound (known as ambient sound). Headphones must therefore be external as in ear headphones don't block out sound very well. A good set of headphones will cost you between 80 pounds and 150 pounds but they are also likely to last a long time so will be worth the investment.
