Sticker Printing: The File Formats for You Designs

by carla san gaspar

When it comes to sticker printing, there are many ways you can observe to make a design that will fit the format or requirements set by the printer. You can easily create sticker designs without becoming a professional graphic designer.

All you need sometimes is a good head for design and an eye out for details. Let your creative energy flow and work out a design with the basic tools available.

Basic Printing Requirements
Printing companies ask for your stickers to saved and set in a certain manner for it to be processed without any complications.

1. CMYK color mode – Stickers should be set or saved in CMYK color mode and not in RGB. Printers and printing presses only produce prints through the balance of these four colors. The inks, at the same time, are cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.

RGB files occupy a different color spectrum. This means that the color combinations it produces are different from CMYK and vice versa. Therefore, you should always be aware if you have saved your files in the right color format.

2. Bleeds - These are essential too for any print job. Bleeds safeguards your precious designs from being accidentally cut off in the wrong places. It is that allowance that allows your printers to cut it in the most secure fashion, without worrying of cutting off an important detail.

Bleeds also make your stickers more polished by ensuring no white spaces are present along the borders when these are cut to size. In this manner, you only enjoy prints that are as colorful all around.

File Formats
Printing companies have become as flexible and accommodating when it comes to the needs of clients. Everything is made more accessible for you. Knowing that not everyone can understand the language of design software, computers and printers – printing companies have made it printing easier for you.

MS Word
Many people are more adept and familiar with the MS Word. This application can easily be used to create files with images.

1 For your stickers, you can take your picture saved in a CMYK color format and simply paste it on a blank document. You can do this by clicking on the Insert button on the menu bar. Choose the option Picture and select, once again, from File.

2 A dialogue box will appear where you have to select the image that you want to put in. One you have selected the image, click on the Insert button on the dialogue box.

3 The image will then appear on the blank document.

4 However, you would need to specify further the size you need for your stickers and communicate well with your printing company.

5 Remember that while there are printing companies who process files saved in an MS Word format, not everybody does this as it takes more effort on the behalf of the printers to process such files.

6 Choose your sticker printing company well and know just what service and print quality you stand to gain when working with only the professionals.
