Great Halloween Games

by Arthur Stoller

Here is a great excuse for grown ups to play hide and seek, and could be used during Halloween if you are throwing a Goblins and Ghouls Halloween party. One person is selected as the witch and goes off to hide while others close their eyes. After about 5 minutes the witch seekers set off to find witchy...all in total darkness which adds to the eerie atmosphere. As they search in the darkness they are each allowed to ask twice 'Where are you witch?'.

And the witch must answer with an evil cackle. After each cackle the witch is free to move elsewhere in her coven. The person to catch the witch then puts on the garb and becomes the next witch. The costume would ideally be a witch's hat and cloak.

Ghost
To start this ghost game everyone sits in a circle and the 1st person thinks of a Halloween word and of 4 or more letters and calls out the 1st letter.

The next player thinks of a word associated with ghosts and ghouls or something else frightening, and calls out the 2nd letter of that word.

The 3rd player thinks of a word beginning with these first 2 letters and calls out the 3rd letter. So the Halloween game continues with each player calling out a letter and avoiding calling out the last letter of a word because anyone who finishes a word, loses a life.

So for example if the first 6 letters are lettuc, the next player must call out "e" and end the word, and lose a life.Players must have a valid word when they call out a letter to make it fair on all.And they can be challenged if someone thinks they just called out a random letter. If they fail, they lose a life. If however, they speak out a valid word, then it is the challenger who loses a life.

The game allows each player to have 3 lives. When you lose a 3rd life, you leave the circle. The last person remaining is the winner

Ghost Lamps
Cut out shapes of spiders, bats and witches out of cardboard and tape to the inside of lampshades. Paint or color them black.Replace the light bulb bulb with an orange colored one. You could also use Chinese lanterns to help build up the effect.Continue the theme with strings of small orange or red Chinese paper lanterns, with fairy lights.

Place a candelabra on the table top with orange. For a creepy effect use green light bulbs. If you have pot plants, drape them with black cloths and spray them with cobweb spray, available at most toy stores.

Continue the theme with black spiders and bats from black cardboard hung low throughout the room, even better where people will bump into them in the dark.
