Giving Your Model Truck Hydraulics

by Victor Epand

Do you really have a love of building model trucks? Would you like to do something that can set them apart but are unsure where to start? One of the ways that you might be able to do this is to install a hydraulics system on them. This will make your truck really memorable and are little enough known to make them an excellent choice to use as an added edge for displaying them. If you do want to try this out then the first thing you will have to do is to find a lowrider model truck that you will want to use for this project.

There are quite a few of these sort models out there to choose from so you should be more than able to find one that will suit your tastes. Most all of them should be able to accept the hydraulics so why not get creative and add them on several different unique ones? All it will take is a little extra creativity and some more elbow grease and you will have the ability to transform a regular model truck into a hydraulics equipped lowrider as well.

You will next need to get your hands on a lowrider conversion kit that will have the system that you need to be able to outfit your model truck. These kits usually are made for models that are already lowriders, not standard model kits. If you want to make your model a lowrider as well as adding hydraulics it will just take a little more work. One point to remember is that if you go too far in the installation process you may not be able to correctly install your hydraulics system. If you do then it can make it very hard to proceed with the conversion process.

Once you have your kit you should make sure to lay out the directions and compare them to the ones in the model kit so you know exactly how far you will need to go before you install the hydraulics. This is usually best done before the fame and body are mated. After you have determined exactly when to install it you can finish your other model building processes as far as they do not interfere with the installation process. First mount your hydraulics to their respective tires and frames. You can attach them any way you wish be it with either screws or craft glue just as long as they have no wiggle.

You are now ready to test your hydraulics out. Connect your wires and see how it works. You will want to test each of your controller settings so you can be sure that it works. This is also the best time to be certain that the truck frame can hold up to some of the stress it will be asked to endure.

If there is a need for you to add some weight to your truck then either add coins taped to the chasis or some lead fishing weights. This should make sure you have the weight you need to secure your truck. Now, finish assembling you model truck and you will be all set. All you might have do do is to add a super gloss paint job for that very wet and shiny look. Now your model truck looks like it is ready to cruise down the street.
