Bright White Smile and 5 Top Tips Towards It!

by john mce

Cosmetic dentistry has taken off in a big way in the last half decade as celebrity magazines proliferate and appearance is kept in the forefront of our minds. However if you are not lucky enough to be born with an ideal set of dentures and do not have the money required to pay a dentist to create one for you then take heed of the tips below.

Cut down on food and beverages that are likely to stain your teeth. I am not suggesting you give up smoking because if it were that easy you would have already done so. However I am advising that you smoke less, try to resist that fifth coffee of the morning and perhaps choose white rather than red wine. Simple precautions such as this can have a massive effect on the colour of your teeth and preserve the whiteness already inherent in them.

Brush your teeth at least two times a day, if not more, for two minutes each time. It sounds obvious and you have probably heard it a million times before from your dentist but it really does make a difference to clean your teeth thoroughly once in the morning and once in the evening to get rid of plaque build up and to stimulate your gums. It is also a good idea to brush your teeth after eating any intensely coloured food, such as your favourite curry.

There are many teeth whitening gels and pastes available from high street stores, most at reasonable prices and more often than not they are fairly successful. It is best to choose by recommendation either from a friend or a professional dentist. Be careful though, as you do hear horror stories of people bleaching their mouths away so choose wisely.
Toothpaste choice can also make all the difference. The key ingredient is fluoride as this is the active agent that prevents cavities so ensure your toothpaste always contains fluoride. In addition mouthwash can help the whole process along, reaching areas of your mouth easily missed by your toothbrush. Similarly flossing is well worth the little time it takes to clean right in between your teeth.

You are what you eat. Eating healthy can help the colour and quality of your teeth. A lot of food stuffs can act as cleansers for your dentures, scrubbing away particles that often stick and can stain. Vegetables and salad are particularly good for this, as are dairy products and white meat rather than red meat. Obviously as part of a healthy diet, always keeping everything in moderation is the key.
Maintain these tips and you are well on the way to a brighter smile.
