Insomnia vs. The Perfectly Rested Person - You Choose

by Sherry Harris

Can you imagine life without insomnia? Try, if you will, to picture what it would feel like if you were to consistently stay in your bed throughout the entire night. Think how much energy your body would conserve if you did not wake up to use the bathroom every hour, or toss and turn with the pillows every few minutes, or be able to sleep through a thunderstorm. Ponder how great it could be to not be ripped from your sleep by every single noise you hear, or to just stare up at the dark ceiling for quite some time thinking about all that went on throughout the day.

Instead of just imagining what this kind of life could look like, why not take the steps toward making it a reality? People who have trouble falling asleep often times just accept their insomnia as normal, and end up suffering through it. But waking up throughout the night or staying up for long periods of time during the night is not normal, and especially not healthy.

What should a perfectly rested person look like?

- Your body feels good and is no longer tense
- Your muscles are relaxed
- Your mind is sharp
- Your eyes no longer sag and bag
- You smile more
- You are pleasant to be around
- You have the energy of someone half your age

Imagine that perfect person is you. It feels good, doesn't it? This is the life when you no longer have insomnia.

Sure, a good night of sleep will not fix all of life's problems. But, it can certainly improve the quality of your life overall, and decrease levels of stress and discomfort. Feeling like a whole different person is just a slumber away. Nighttime is something that should be your own time, and you cannot allow anyone or anything to take that away from you.

The fact remains that you are not proving anything by 'toughing it out' or just letting it go. The bottom line is that sleep is an extremely important part of a healthy lifestyle. It is probably one of the simplest behaviors that you can develop in order to feel better and look younger. If only all of life's troubles could be fixed by lying down on a bed and drifting off into a deep sleep.

You owe it to yourself - Don't be afraid to shut out all the distractions, and hit the sack. It could just be the best thing you'll ever do, and you will surely notice the change in you.
