by Daniel Millions

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, it's important that you learn as much as you can about your condition. There are numerous publications and studies available for diabetics who wish to educate themselves about their diabetes. In addition, there are organizations and professionals that diabetics can approach for diabetes education.

One thing that they all have in common is that in order for diabetics to lead a healthy lifestyle, they need to follow proper diet, be active and take their medications. Follow these things and you can prevent your condition from become serious. You can avoid the complications that can arise from diabetes.

But did you know that there are some plants and herbs that may be able to help you with your diabetes? Here are four such foods:

1. Banaba Leaf: The banaba leaf has been found to contain corosolic acid, a compound that aids in the transport of glucose to the cells. The banaba leaf appears to help lower blood sugar. About 48mg of banaba leaf is suggested for diabetics to take every day. This herb is easily absorbed and is more effective as an oil-based extract.

2. Garlic: Garlic is known to be effective in fighting various types of viruses and diseases. It's considered one of the most amazing foods. Garlic has been found to help reduce cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels in diabetics. In addition, garlic promotes normal blood pressure, a vital concern among diabetics who are insulin resistant.

Garlic supplements are available in most health food stores and grocery stores. Make sure to buy garlic supplements with a single serving equivalent to one clove. If you'd rather not take garlic supplements, you can roast garlic instead, add it in the food you cook or even mix it in with salad dressings. Garlic is also great for adding to your juicer recipes. You can extract garlic juice and add it to your juices.

3. Fenugreek: Fiber is very important to diabetics. Fenugreek is extremely high in soluble fiber, making them perfect for diabetics. Fenugreek seeds are edible and they have been found to lower blood sugar levels.

3. Essiac: Essiac is a combination of several herbs that are found to help with diabetes. Essiac is a mixture of slippery elm, sheep's sorrel, Indian rhubarb root and burdock root.

This herbal concoction has been used since the early 1920s, when it was originally used as therapy for cancer patients. Essiac tea has been known to reduce blood glucose levels as well as minimize the need of diabetics (both type 1 and type 2) for medications.
