We loved her. She was funny to a fault with her dry sense of humor which made us love her all the more. I met Destiny Blaine in Tunica, Mississippi recently at a poker tournament and while I thought it was a bit odd that she wrote about poker, given her err...well, other choice of writing genres, I still enjoyed talking to her and really liked the woman’s sharp wit.
Destiny Blaine is a captivating author. She writes erotica romance. Let me rephrase that for a moment, she writes about decidedly delicious activities and is able to pour out her humor as well as her writing talent onto the pages of erotica romance.
My friends and I met her with her little tape recorder standing outside the poker room at Harrah’s. She was people watching as she spoke into the recorder in short, choppy phrases. I noticed her because of a hat she had on. I liked her hat. Then, I noticed her tape recorder and knew she was a writer. Since I write web content, I approached her and I’m glad I did.
She told me she was writing about the poker tournaments and we exchanged friendly conversation as I explained to her that I wrote gambling content for the web. I told her that I was an undiscovered ghost writer and she explained to me that all ghost writers are undiscovered and went on to tell me her feelings about ghost writers, which by the way, I appreciated. She has a way of making people feel really great about their writing.
When she started to walk away, one of my friends nudged me indicating we should possibly invite her for a drink. So, we did. Timidly, not at all like her books’ characters, she reluctantly exchanged business cards. That’s when the whole truth came out.
Reaching into her purse, Destiny Blaine pulled out a business card. It was the wrong card. While our introductions had been very informal, the greetings we exchanged included talking about poker, casino gambling, and ghost writing. Not at all erotica romance but, Ms. Blaine mistakenly forgot to mention her other genre—the one which is allowing her to make a name for herself.
In the midst of crowds and the sounds of the casino, Destiny Blaine handed me the wrong business card. The name she originally gave us, her real name, forever gone. The top of the card read “The Seduction Begins….and it won’t be short lived” and then had her name, e-mail address and “Author of the Afternoon Delights” along with “writing it sexier every time”. Her slogan was in bold. “Erotica Romance has changed and some say Destiny Blaine is to blame.” By the time she realized she handed me the wrong card, it was too late. She had been exposed!
Rather than try to make excuses or apologies, she simply snapped another card from her purse and said, “Well John, it appears I’ve given you the wrong card.” She placed the other one in my hand, the card she typically uses for her freelance work, smiled and said, “My cell phone is on the card. You guys give me a call and we’ll chat more about your writing later.” In a blink, she was gone and as we watched her walk away confidently, I decided I was in love.
Now, understand, when a writer falls in love, they fall in love with the minds and creativity of another human being. I was in love with Destiny’s confidence, her charm, and her mannerism. As soon as I read her short stories, I became fascinated by the woman. Later, when my friends and I met her at a casino for drinks, I discovered it wouldn’t be a mutual attraction because Ms. Blaine was married. Apparently, to my dismay, happily married.
By the time we met Destiny later that same evening, she was ready for us. She assumed I had researched her work by the time we met and her assumptions were correct. In fact, all of my friends and I couldn’t wait to put her on the spot after reading excerpts and even purchasing her e-stories online. She handled us like a champ. We were ready to embarrass her and she instead, took the upper hand and quickly put us in our places.
While I must say erotica romance isn’t something I will ever read ongoing, I will say this. I will read everything Destiny Blaine ever writes. I will also read everything she ever writes under her “real” name. She’s a talented writer who knows how to draw in her audience regardless of the topic.
After spending time with this unique southern belle, I have come to the conclusion that this is one author who is going places. Wherever she goes, I will always remember my drinks with Destiny and my time, consequently with her at the craps table. Just as she captured my admiration and my friends’ attention, everyone dealing craps seems to know her in most of the casinos and she seems to be well liked by most of them. Of course, they know her by her “other name”.
I can honestly say, I found this woman to be a class act. She’s the woman men will love. They’ll love her if they have the chance to play craps with her, they’ll like to engage her in conversation, and guys, you’ll love her stories because the sex scenes are unbelievable and she even knows a lot about football. I’m not kidding. This woman is the whole package. In fact, I found Destiny Blaine and her stories to be decidedly delicious.
