Helping Troubled Teens With Education

by Greg Shuey

One of the main concerns with helping troubled teens is that when they are dealing with these issues that cause them to be non-progressive, their education is one of the major things that suffer. Getting an education, especially the basics, is crucial for the success of any young person. When teens have to deal with problems that keep them from focusing on their education, their general development suffers greatly.

In an effort to help troubled teens, there have been special schools designed just for these cases. These schools stress a high concentration around a curriculum that troubled teens must follow in order to get an education. Along with an academic agenda, behavioral and emotional therapy are included in the program.

Knowing how to help troubled teens is what makes these schools so great. They have a very good student to teacher ratio so that the troubled students get the attention they need. Also, the students are permitted to have high involvement within the classroom discussions. The troubled teens are given homework that will help them keep focused on their academic goals and they are given plenty of time to get one on one help from their teachers.

These schools are designed for teens between the grades of 9 to 12. The courses offered is a comprehensive set of all the basics taught at any other school including, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Physical Education, English, Laboratory Science and so on. Students are also given choices for other elective courses to help them learn and grow. These programs help troubled teens become aware of their potentials and capacities for succeeding in the world today. The academic program is a twelve month period divided into three terms and uses a standard credit evaluation system. Like any other school, a specific number of credits are required for the students to receive a high school diploma. Completion of the requirements, including a number of credit hours per course category, is required.

One of the courses offered is an Ecology class. This class is designed to help troubled teems develop proper emotional growth and stability. In addition, there are other courses offered to provide help for troubled teens to gain experience for higher levels of education. This is so that a troubled teen graduating from this program will have the abilities and opportunities to continue their education at a college or university level. These classes will help troubled teens become more self aware of their abilities through a friendly and appropriately competitive environment.
