Distribute E-books from Central Publishers to Global Markets

by Swati Haritash

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- ebrary[R], a leading provider of e-content services and technology and Versita, a leading STM e-publisher and e-publishing technology marketer in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced a strategic partnership that will make e-books from leading academic and professional publishers in Central and Eastern Europe available to libraries and other markets worldwide.
Under the terms of the agreement, Versita will aggregate English language e-books published by Central and Eastern European publishers and offer them to ebrary for distribution, under both subscription and purchase models. ebrary's global customer base includes thousands of libraries and other organizations, serving more than 12.5 million end-users.
"As the e-book market is growing exponentially, we are proud to expand our business to offer publishers in Central and Eastern Europe a way to securely and efficiently distribute their e-book titles to libraries and other organizations locally and globally, using ebrary's proven e-publishing system," said Jacek Ciesielski, CEO of Versita. "Electronic format and ebrary's powerful distribution platform will help those publishers overcome the barrier to reach the global reader."
"Versita is a strategic and valuable partner to ebrary on a number of fronts," said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary. "In addition to providing ebrary with valuable new content, which we can offer to our growing roster of libraries and other customers throughout the world, our partnership with Versita validates the need for our e-publishing platform in the international marketplace. We are very excited to be working with such a renowned and forward-thinking partner as Versita."
Key features and benefits of the ebrary platform include the following:
Versita publishes scientific electronic journals focused on Central and Eastern European research, and distributed globally in partnership with Springer. In addition, Versita provides scientific journal and book publishers in Central and Eastern Europe with the world's leading electronic publishing technology solutions such as MetaPress, Editorial Manager and now also ebrary. The objective of the company is to become the leading e-publisher, e-publishing technology provider, and e-content distribution platform serving the academic and professional information markets in Central and Eastern Europe.
Versita was established in 2001 by Jacek Ciesielski, a graduate of the London School of Economics and the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management, and the former general manager of local subsidiaries of global corporations Hasbro and Fujifilm.
ebrary[R] is a leading provider of e-content services and technology. The company helps libraries, publishers, and other organizations disseminate valuable information to end users, while improving their research and document interaction.
The company has developed a flexible e-content platform, which customers may use in a number of different, integrated capacities: ebrary customers may purchase or subscribe to e-books and other content under a variety of pricing and access models, and they may license the ebrary platform to distribute, sell, and market their own content online. All options are delivered using a customizable interface and include the ebrary Reader[TM] with InfoTools[TM] software, which enable integration with other resources to provide an economical and efficient way to utilize information.
