How to Become a Freelance Copywriter

by Michael Fleischner

There are many people today who would like to offer copywriting services via the web but don't know where to start. The copywriting profession is very rewarding and can definitely let you earn a lot of money. It's also a great way to expand your skills and learn how to drive effective marketing results.

However, it's also a fact that many individuals who strive to become effective copywriters online only see themselves fail. This is because they tend to forget some of the necessary things required for website copywriting. These "necessary things" are so simple, yet so important, that they are easily overlooked.

The very first thing that you must have in the copywriting world is a website. Your very own copywriting website will act as your showcase of skill, talent, and ability. Your website will also serve as your "office" - where clients can see your work, ask you questions, and make a purchase of your services.

Most copywriters fall into the trap of believing that because they are simply freelancing, that a personal website isn't necessary for describing their services. In fact, they may believe that posting a freelance bulletin or ad is enough. However, with a website, you'lll look much more professional and dedicated to your work. If you don't have a website, build one. If you're unable to, start a copywriting blog. If you can't do either, hire someone to build a website for you!

Now that you have your website up and running - with sample articles and all the links and buttons fully operational - the next thing you need to do as a freelance website copywriter is to let others know about your services.

Since there are a lot of websites like yours on the internet, you'll have to effectively market your website to stand apart from the crowd. How can you do do this? There are a variety of methods, but one that works extremely well is article marketing. By writing articles and submitting to major article directories, you will increase your market exposure and drive traffic to your website. If you're unfamiliar with article directories, search for "article directories" in Google and visit some sites.

An easy way to get started with article marketing is to simply write an article on a subject mater related to your services. For example, if you're offering copywriting services for brochures, then create an article explaining your previous successes or tips for writing an effective brochure. When you're finished with the article, don't forget to include a short bio about yourself, and never forget to include a link to your website. This how people will find out about your website and the services you offer.

Spend the time to identify the top article directories and post your articles there. Submission is free and a lot of people search these websites for articles on thousands of subjects to learn more or simply find content for their own website. This is why it is important that your article should be keyword rich in order for people to find your articles quickly.

Simply put, if you want to succeed as a website copywriter, you need to focus on building your own website and driving traffic to it. In this article we mentioned increasing traffic to your site through article marketing. There are a variety of other techniques you can use, but this one has the greatest bang for the buck.
