Shopping for Discount Computers

by Phoenix Delray

If you are on the market for discount computers, you probably are feeling a little overwhelmed. There are so many places that sell discount computers, all practically begging for you to make your purchase with them over the competition. Making matters worse, it is not just a battle of the inserts in the Sunday morning paper anymore, with places like Circuit City, Best Buy, Radio Shack and WalMart trying to hock their wares. Instead, you also have to navigate through all of the online retailers, which make your job of looking at discount computers and making a selection even more difficult.

Still, the best place to start your search of discount computers is probably the newspaper. Spread out all of the ads from the big box stores and other retailers, checking out what they are offering. Make a note of any rebates that one store may be offering over the other. In some cases, the actual store itself is offering the rebate, but in other instances the rebate is offered by the manufacturer and is good at all retailers. Be sure to ask, as sometimes store clerks either do not know about the rebates or are not told to mention them.

Many times, no matter how many rebates and sales the normal brick and mortar stores have, you can still get a better deal on discount computers online. Once you know what kind of brands you are interested in, go to the websites that different companies have. Try Sony, Hp, Compaq or Dell. Most of these places will have sales on certain models, turning an $800 computer into a $500 discount computer. Also, there are usually deals that the manufacturer will offer, like a free printer with purchase or free shipping on orders over a certain amount.

Additionally, most of these sites let you enter discount codes into the equation when you go to checkout. All you have to do to take advantage of these discount codes is search for them online (try Googling sony.com discount codes and see what you get). Then, enter the code and watch as the discount computers that you are looking at get even cheaper!

As you are pricing out various discount computers, the last thing that you need to remember is that you should consider the cost of everything before making the purchase. Additional warranties, shipping and other hidden costs can really add up if you are not careful.
