How can Powder be Used in Printing

by Victor Epand

The use of the toner cartridges in a printing machine is just like the ink cartridges, without which the printing of texts or photographs would not be possible. The toner is a kind of powder which is particularly used in the laser printers.

Earlier carbon powder was used for printing. Then to improve its quality and standard it has been changed to a powder which is blended with carbon and polymer powder. The process of using these is similar with the ink cartridges where the powder is melted by the use of heat. When heat melts the Toner Cartridges, the powder in it pours onto the paper and thus takes place the act of printing.

Usually this combination of the carbon and polymer varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and also from machine to machine because everyone will use it according to their need and usage. However, the widely used polymer for such printing is the Styrene Acrylate Copolymer or the polyester Resin. Based on the formulation or combination of the powder in the Cartridges, the function, size and speed of printing also varies.

The invention of the toner powder however is a very interesting one. Initially a kind of slab was made from all these components for pressing and printing. But once in an accident this slab got broken, and out came a kind of powder which was found to be better for fine printing than the previous method. While examining these through the microscope, it was found that there were various sizes and shapes and these made the printing much more beautiful and easy.

Just like the benefits of using them, the toner cartridges are easy to clean too. They can be cleaned and washed very easily with cold water. The cartridges if kept cleaned and without any obstacle in its way to get melted, nothing can prevent them from pouring out gently as it is required. For removing the toner printings from garments or from skin the use of cold water is enough. Hot water can be used for removing the dark prints from hands otherwise more intense hand cleaners can be used for that. However, if the toner has gotten mixed into clothing, it is very difficult to remove and sometimes is impossible.

Also if the toner gets spread inside the printer, a special kind of vacuum cleaner is required which can erase the stripes electrically. With all this having been said, it is clear that the toner cartridges can be used for fine printing and it is not difficult to remove from where it is not wanted.
